Meet Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV! This Chicago-born Catholic leader made history as the first American-born pope, but his ties to Peru run deep.

Growing up in the Windy City, followed by decades in Peru as a missionary and bishop, Leo XIV has forged strong connections with both nations. From his time as a pupil at the Frances Xavier Warde School to his role as the Bishop of Chiclayo diocese (2015-2023), his journey has captivated people on both continents.

Upon his election, reactions poured in from people in the United States and Peru, celebrating the elevation of a "native son" to the papacy in Chicago and expressing joy in Peru, including the capital Lima.
