Cities Across America Brace for Eruption of Urban Violence upon Music's Silence

In the current climate of escalating violence and the growing threat of civil unrest, it's becoming increasingly clear that ordinary citizens are preparing for self-defense. The proliferation of AR rifles, once the domain of military and law enforcement, is now a common sight among suburban households.

These firearms, when handled by skilled shooters, can deliver impressive accuracy. A typical AR rifle can shoot two-inch groups at one hundred yards from a steady bench rest, translating to eight- to ten-inch groups at four hundred yards. This capability, while impressive, underscores the potential for these weapons in a turbulent environment.

But what about the hypothetical scenario of tens of thousands of former special operations troops taking matters into their own hands? It's an unlikely, yet not impossible, scenario. In such a situation, the U.S. Army might be called upon to restore order and security in American cities. However, it's uncertain whether any conceivable combinations of local and state police, federal law enforcement, National Guard, or active-duty Army actions could neutralize or eliminate these former troops.

In the absence of effective official police response, suburbanites may form self-defense forces to guard their neighborhoods. These forces, according to Matt Bracken, a well-known commentator on preparedness and civil unrest, are likely to adopt small, mobile, and stealthy group tactics. These tactics emphasize avoiding direct large confrontations, focusing instead on dispersed, hit-and-run style defense and patrols, leveraging knowledge of local terrain, and using communications discipline to maintain security.

The sniper ambush, a tactic developed by our war fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan, could be a counter to rampaging mobs armed only with short- to medium-range weapons. Some vigilantes may adapt to law enforcement pressure by using stolen cars, false uniforms, and masks during their missions.

It's important to note that millions of American citizens currently own AR-pattern rifles, the most popular model of rifle in America, with millions sold in the past decade. These rifles, thanks to standardized sight mounting rails, can easily accommodate efficient optical sights. Millions of scoped bolt-action hunting rifles, capable of hitting a man-sized target at ranges out to and even beyond a thousand yards, are also in private hands.

This hyper-dangerous environment could lead to the fracturing of urban areas, divided by no-man's-lands, which would hinder economic redevelopment for many years because the critical infrastructure corridors will remain insecure. In such a scenario, politicians who did not act in the security interest of their local constituents would also be targeted.

Eventually, high concrete "Peace Walls" like those in Belfast, Northern Ireland, might be installed where the different ethnic groups live in close proximity. If recovery to sane and civilized norms of behavior are ever regained in our lifetimes, we might avoid slipping into a new Dark Age, a stern and permanent tyranny, warlordism, anarchy, or any other dire outcome.

However, it's crucial to remember that this is a hypothetical scenario based on current trends and predictions. The future is unpredictable, and it's our collective responsibility to work towards a peaceful and secure society.
