Free Movie Screenings at National Cineteca Chapultepec Begin August 15

Starting from August 15, 2025, the National Cineteca Chapultepec in Mexico City will open its doors for a week of free movie screenings as part of Mexican Film Week. The venue, located at 1345 Vasco de Quiroga Avenue in the fourth section of Chapultepec Forest, will operate with all 8 of its theaters and the open-air forum.

The screenings will feature a variety of films, including Dos tipos de cuidado, Río Escondido, Canoa, and Cronos, among others. Although the focus is on Mexican cinema, there is no specific mention of films by indigenous women filmmakers in the current programming for the upcoming screenings.

If you are interested in screenings by indigenous women filmmakers, it might be necessary to check the Cineteca Chapultepec's official programming closely or contact them directly. The reopening of Cineteca Chapultepec follows an incomplete inauguration that took place almost a year ago, during which it was open to the public with documentary screenings in only one theater.

The press conference announcing the reopening was attended by Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, Culture Secretary Clara Brugada, and other public officials. The event also saw the presence of Claudia Curiel de Icaza, the Federal Culture Secretary, and Gabriel Pano, who captured a photo of the occasion.

Meanwhile, in other news, the Banamex Cultural Promotion House in Oaxaca remains a mystery, with no further details provided at this time. Starting this Saturday, Chapultepec will offer food sales and local products to encourage local commerce.
