Diving into a Dark Fantasy Masterpiece: James Cameron's New Project Unveiled
James Cameron embarks on new cinematic endeavor - Cinema undertaking led by James Cameron
Hey there! Get ready for some exciting news if you're a fan of James Cameron's epic cinematography. The legendary director, who's 70 years young, has announced a fresh venture that might just take him away from the blue planet of Pandora for a bit.
Just before the release of "Avatar: Fire and Ash," Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has snagged the rights to the fantasy novel "The Devils" by Joe Abercrombie (50). Cameron shared the scoop himself, on none other than Instagram.
A Hellishly Witty Dark Adventure Awaits
"Think witty, clever horror opus? An epic clash between good and evil, where the line is blurred? A quirky, stylish medieval romp, where survival depends on the monsters themselves?" That's how Cameron sums up Abercrombie's novel in the press release.
Alongside the author, Cameron is set to pen the screenplay after he wraps up work on "Avatar 3." And the director is pumped, promising it'll be another thrilling challenge to bring the legendary characters to life.
So, What's "The Devils" All About?
"The Devils" takes us to an alternative, magical medieval world plagued by flesh-eating elves. Our hero, Brother Diaz (a monk, if you're curious), is tasked with shepherding a lost heir through a dangerous journey, leading the way to her coronation and uniting the forces against the impending apocalypse. To aid him on this perilous quest, Brother Diaz recruits a band of supernatural monsters and dangerous criminals, collectively known as the seven devils.
Avatar 4 and 5: Could Cameron Be Heading for a Darker Terrain?
It's a bit surprising that the mastermind behind "Avatar" is venturing into a new project. After all, parts 4 and 5 of the series are set for release in 2029 and 2031, right? But don't worry, production and filming for these haven't started just yet, so Cameron has the room to tackle another intriguing tale.
Cameron's last deviation from the “Avatar” universe was in 1997 with "Titanic," a romantic disaster epic that earned him a hat-trick of Oscars[1]. In total, the film bagged eleven Academy Awards.
