A new remake of the iconic boarding school drama, "Girls in Uniform," is currently in production. Directed by Justina Jürgensen, this will be the third adaptation of the original film, which was released nearly 95 years ago.

Set to hit theaters in 2026, the remake is being filmed in various locations, including Brandenburg and Bavaria. The original story, penned by Christa Winsloe, is about unrequited love in strict Prussia, a theme that continues to resonate today.

The original film, released in 1931, is considered the first pure women's film and the first lesbian film in film history. It was later adapted into a novel, "The Girl Manuela," and a film in 1958, starring Romy Schneider and Lilli Palmer.

In this new adaptation, the lead roles are taken by newcomers Derya Akyol and Josefine Koenig. They will be joined by a talented cast including Leonie Benesch, Jannis Niewöhner, and Angela Winkler. Justina Jürgensen, who is also the screenwriter for the remake, will be directing the film.

Filming for the remake began this week and is set to continue until the end of October. The distributor for the film is Tobis. The story, based on Winsloe's play, promises to be a fresh take on a classic tale that continues to captivate audiences.
