Cinema auditorium redevelopment scheduled to start on June 22 in Nizhny Novgorod's "Orlenok" cinema
The Orlenok cinema, a beloved cultural institution in Nizhny Novgorod, is currently undergoing a significant renovation. The auditorium of the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" is being transformed, with its seats being replaced, the walls and ceiling being panelled to improve its acoustics, and the expected completion date being approximately August 5th.
The Orlenok cinema, which opened in 1980, has a rich history. It was built on the site of the older Nizhny Novgorod cinema "Palas," which first welcomed viewers in 1912. The Palas cinema was more popular in its time, but it is now no longer operational. The Orlenok cinema, under the leadership of current head Elena Morozova, has taken over as a significant cultural hub in the city.
The Orlenok cinema specializes in showing films for children and youth, as well as educational films, art-house films, and films as part of the "Present Cinema" project. It also hosts European cinema festivals organized jointly with the French Cultural Center "Alliance Francaise-Nizhny Novgorod," the Polish Cultural Center, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The cinema also hosts animation festivals, short film festivals, children's art exhibitions, and photo exhibitions.
The building housing the Orlenok cinema was designed by architect Franz Shekhtel, adding to its architectural significance. As a municipal cultural institution, the Orlenok cinema plays a vital role in the cultural landscape of Nizhny Novgorod.

Once renovation is complete, the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" will become an entertainment venue, offering a wide range of cultural experiences to the city's residents and visitors.
The Orlenok cinema continues to be a beacon of culture and art in Nizhny Novgorod, preserving its rich history while adapting to the needs of the modern audience. The renovation is a testament to the city's commitment to maintaining its cultural institutions and providing high-quality entertainment to its citizens.
