Chronology of the Suspect Linked to Charlie Kirk's Campus Shooting, Leading up to Sheriff's Office Surrender
In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect in the shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event has been apprehended. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from St. George, Utah, surrendered to authorities 33 hours after the incident at a sheriff's office.
The shooting, which occurred at around 12:23 p.m. on Sept. 10, took place at Utah Valley University. Robinson was captured on surveillance video fleeing the rooftop carrying what appeared to be a rifle. The bullet narrowly missed others crowded around the stage, including children.
Robinson's motivation for the shooting was that he believed Kirk 'spreads too much hate.' The rifle found by investigators was wrapped in a towel and had inscriptions such as 'O Bella ciao' and 'If you Read This, You Are GAY Lmao.' Robinson's father recognized the weapon in the news coverage as the same bolt-action rifle Robinson had inherited from his grandfather.
Robinson implied he was the shooter and admitted he 'couldn't go to jail' and wanted to 'end it.' He was not handcuffed and was described as 'quiet and somber' during the surrender.
The FBI offered up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The agency released two photos of Robinson as they sought a new person of interest in the murder of Charlie Kirk. Robinson's mother recognized her son from the FBI's released photos and contacted him.
Robinson was initially wearing light-colored shorts, a black hat, and light-colored shoes, but changed into jeans and a black long-sleeve shirt before the attack. He was transferred north to Utah County to be booked.
The suspect lived with a transgender partner who is now cooperating with investigators. Robinson surrendered to authorities voluntarily with his parents and a family friend. The shooting occurred at a crucial time, as Kirk was a 31-year-old father of two.
The FBI is continuing their investigation into the shooting, and more details are expected to be released in the coming days. The community is relieved that the suspect has been apprehended, and they are hopeful for a swift resolution to this tragic event.
