Tezpur and Sonitpur mourn the loss of Chowkat Ali, a multifaceted personality who excelled in sports, arts, and culture. Ali, known for creating the iconic running rhino emblem of the Assam State Transport Corporation, passed away recently.

Ali's sporting career spanned from 1943 to 1948. He was a goalkeeper for Maharana Athletic Club in 1943 and captained a hockey team in Tezpur from 1944 to 1946. His skills were recognized nationally, leading to his selection for the Indian football team in 1948.

Beyond sports, Ali was a man of many talents. He acted in several Assamese films, including Matir Swarg, Smritir Parosh, Xorapat, and Nimila Annko, and even starred in a Bengali film, Maan Rokhya. His artistic prowess extended to painting, photography, and playing the mouth organ. Ali was also a passionate gardener, cultivating one of Tezpur's finest flower gardens.
