Unshod journeys marked a decisive period in 1991 for Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as he traversed eight parliamentary constituencies in Vidisha, a stride that earned him the moniker "Barefoot Brother."

Chouhan's Foot March Combines Farmers, Personal Life, and Political Prospects

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan embarked on a foot march, Viksit Bharat Sankalp Padyatra, in his Vidisha constituency of Madhya Pradesh. This journey, evoking memories of his first elected term in 1991, is a testament to his enduring connection with the rural community. The mission this time is multifaceted, aiming to engage with farmers, empower women, and reinforce his position within the evolving BJP landscape.

At 66, the six-time MP covers 20-25 km daily, traversing every corner of his parliamentary constituency. This padyatra, held 2-3 days a week, serves a dual purpose – political outreach and policy implementation. The focus now lies on transforming women's economic status, from Lakhpati Didi to Crorepati Didi, symbolizing financial self-sufficiency for rural women.

Chouhan highlighted the significance of grassroots empowerment, asserting that actual transformation will unfold as cleanliness, water conservation, employment opportunities, and civic responsibility bloom in every village. Assembled crowds echoed his sentiments, confirming the impact of central government initiatives.

Unlike traditional political yatras, this one brings agricultural scientists directly into the fields and village chaupals. As part of the forthcoming Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, slated from May 29, 2,170 teams of 3-4 scientists will visit over 700 districts. Their role is to analyze agroclimatic conditions, soil nutrition, climate change effects, and pest patterns, providing tailored advice to over 1.5 crore farmers. Connecting lab to land is the ultimate goal.

The yatra is not just about engaging with the public – it is a carefully choreographed message. Chouhan's son Kartikeya, a newcomer to the political scene, joins the march, fueling speculation about a generational handover in Madhya Pradesh politics. The padyatra seems to be paving the way for Kartikeya's entry into the public sphere.

Meanwhile, on the same day in Narsinghpur, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav hosted an Agriculture-Industry Conclave, projecting a corporatized vision for farming in Madhya Pradesh. While Chouhan interacts directly with farmers, Yadav emphasizes agriculture as an industry-ready sector, fostering partnerships and investments.

Conspicuous by their absence during the padyatra's launch were BJP state president VD Sharma and organizational general secretary Hitanand Sharma. Their absence raises questions about potential friction between Shivraj Chouhan and the current state leadership or if it is merely a scheduling issue.

Sensing an opportunity, the Congress launched a Gaon Gaon Sangathan Abhiyan in Shivraj Chouhan's stronghold of Vidisha, accusing him of neglecting farmer distress. As the padyatra unfolds, the competition between key political players intensifies, with Shivraj Chouhan walking the line between politics and development.

War-and-conflicts take a backseat as the political landscape in Madhya Pradesh heated up with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's multifaceted Viksit Bharat Sankalp Padyatra, engaging with farmers, empowering women, and reinforcing his position within the evolving BJP landscape. In the realm of policy-and-legislation, the padyatra serves a dual purpose – political outreach and policy implementation, with Chouhan's son Kartikeya joining the march, fueling speculation about a generational handover in Madhya Pradesh politics. As for the sports scene, it appears that Shivraj Chouhan might not have sports or sports-betting on his agenda, focusing instead on the farming sector and its transformation. General-news is awash with debates about the implications of Chouhan's padyatra on Madhya Pradesh politics, while crime-and-justice seems to be maintaining a low profile.
