Choir Performance: Conclusion of Bach's B Minor Mass by Cross Choral - Choir Kreuzchor unveils new season, featuring Bach's Mass in B Minor as a key performance

The Dresden Kreuzchor, one of Germany's premier boys' choirs, has unveiled its 2025/2026 season schedule, which promises a captivating blend of classical masterpieces, new commissions, and educational outreach. The season, themed "verbunden" (connected), underscores networks and cultural heritage with modern reinterpretations under the direction of Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann.

The upcoming season will feature several performances of renowned choral works. Bach's Mass in B minor (h-Moll Messe) will serve as a centerpiece at a commemorative concert marking the destruction of Dresden during World War II. Johannes Brahms' "German Requiem" will be performed at the season's launch, alongside Bach's other major works.

The season continues the tradition of commissioning new works, with Lithuanian composer Diana Čemerytė composing six new pieces for Kreuzchor Vespers services. A new Requiem by Sven Helbig ("Requiem A") is premiering on February 4, 2025, aligned with the 80th anniversary remembrance of WWII and Dresden’s destruction, adding a contemporary commemorative element.

Cultural education plays a significant role in the new season, with activities such as a Nachwuchstag (young talent day) on March 22, 2025, to introduce families to the choir’s training and activities.

The season will kick off with an "Off to the Heath" forest concert on September 14, followed by an Advent concert in the stadium of Dynamo Dresden on December 18. The repertoire of the Kreuzchor ranges from early Baroque to world premieres of contemporary music.

Andreas Hammerschmidt's oeuvre, including cantatas, motets, and other vocal works, will also be showcased in the new season. New discoveries and premieres can be heard in the Kreuzchor vesper services.

Dresden's Culture Mayor Annekatrin Klepsch emphasized that the new season's program cultivates the diverse musical heritage of the region and conveys it in new interpretations. The choir shapes the vesper services and church services in the Dresden Kreuzkirche.

The Dresden Kreuzchor is presenting a challenging program for its new season, with performances of Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" and "St. Matthew Passion," as well as the h-Moll Mass at a memorial concert commemorating the destruction of Dresden during World War II.

The choir regularly performs with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden. The Kreuzchor will also collaborate with the London Contemporary Orchestra under the direction of Martin Lehmann in London on October 4, presenting the "Requiem A" by Sven Helwig with several choirs.

In conclusion, the Dresden Kreuzchor’s 2025/26 season balances celebrated classical masterpieces by Bach and Brahms with new commissions and educational outreach, anchored in remembrance and contemporary relevance.
