Chita’s icy streets leave residents trapped in a year-long winter nightmare

Winter conditions in Chita have left residents struggling with dangerously icy roads and pavements. Despite repeated complaints and official promises, the problem has persisted for over a year. Heavy snowfall followed by sudden thaws has turned sidewalks into slippery hazards, leading to injuries and frustration.

The issue first gained attention in December 2024, when people in the Vostochny settlement reported roads covered in thick ice. By November 2024, local hospitals had already recorded a spike in fall-related injuries due to the treacherous conditions. Residents expected action, but little changed.

The icy conditions in Chita have now dragged on for more than a year, with repeated official orders failing to resolve the issue. Without a designated body to manage sidewalk maintenance, the problem risks worsening as winter continues. Residents continue to face daily hazards, while hospitals deal with the consequences of inaction.
