China ships out 3.48 million vehicles during the first half of 2025, marking an 18% increase compared to the same period last year
China has seen a significant increase in the export of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the first half of 2021, with a year-on-year growth of approximately 75%. This trend reflects a consistent pattern of rapid growth in recent years.
In June 2021 alone, China exported 256,000 NEVs, up 92% compared to the same month in 2020. NEVs accounted for 41% of total vehicle exports, marking a 7 percentage point increase compared to the same period last year. This growth has made China a major player in the global market for NEVs.
The top destinations for Chinese vehicle exports in June 2021 were Mexico, the UAE, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Russia, the Philippines, Belgium, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Australia. Mexico was the largest importer, with 40,391 units exported, followed closely by the UAE with 39,432 units.
The United Kingdom, Philippines, and Kazakhstan were the eighth, ninth, and tenth-largest importers, respectively, with 136,297, 122,628, and 88,076 units exported in the first six months of 2021. Other notable importers included Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Belgium, each importing between 143,682 and 149,646 units.
From January to June 2021, China exported a total of 3.48 million cars, an increase of 18% year-on-year. The export of NEVs during this period totaled 1.42 million units, up 41% year-on-year.
Looking ahead, the trend of rapid growth in NEV exports is expected to continue. In the first half of 2025, NEV exports showed a year-on-year increase of around 75%, indicating a consistent growth trend. By June 2025, NEV exports totaled about 1.06 million units, reflecting a 75.2% year-on-year rise compared to June of the previous year.
This continued growth in NEV exports is a testament to China's commitment to promoting the use of clean and sustainable energy solutions, both domestically and internationally. As the world moves towards a more environmentally-friendly future, China's leadership in the global NEV market is set to play a crucial role.
- The growth in China's export of electric vehicles (EVs) has extended to lifestyle choices, as China's sports car enthusiasts increasingly opt for EV-powered vehicles for maintenanceless driving.
- China's dominance in the global market for NEVs is not confined to cars alone, but extends to the lifestyle sector, including the adoption of EVs in various sports activities.
- With the increasing popularity of EVs in China, the demand for car-maintenance services relating to traditional internal combustion engines is expected to decrease, contributing to a more energy-efficient lifestyle.
- As China continues to lead in the global market for EVs, it is likely that more countries will adopt Chinese EVs as a solution for reducing their carbon footprint, leading to a collective shift towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
