China-Kazakhstan Relations Forecasted to Reach New Heights in 2024

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, has expressed optimism about the future of China-Kazakhstan relations, describing 2024 as a year of good harvest for the bilateral relationship.

During a press conference in Beijing on January 7, Guo Jiakun highlighted the strong bonds between the two countries, referring to China and Kazakhstan as good neighbours, good friends, and good partners. He emphasised that the nations enable each other's success and share a high degree of mutual trust.

Last year, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Kazakhstan, where he reached important new common understandings with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on bilateral relations. This visit marked a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the relationship.

Guo Jiakun stated that China intends to continue to take China-Kazakhstan relations to new heights. He mentioned that in recent years, cooperation between the two nations in various fields has entered the fast lane, with cultural and people-to-people exchanges seeing breakthroughs, and cooperation in industrial capacity, connectivity, agriculture, new energy, and other areas going well.

Moreover, two-way travel between China and Kazakhstan hit a new high, reflecting the growing closeness between the two nations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry's press service reported this statement.

In his January 3 interview, Kazakh President Tokayev also reflected on the dynamics of relations with foreign partners, including China. He emphasised that more robust trade and economic ties exist between the two countries.

In 2021, the main events aimed at strengthening cooperation between China and Kazakhstan focused on energy, infrastructure projects, and digital transformation, as part of their bilateral relations and within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This underscores Kazakhstan's role as a key Eurasian partner.

In the new year, China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to forge stronger synergy between their development strategies. Guo Jiakun's statement comes as both countries look forward to a prosperous future, built on a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
