"China-Arunachal Pradesh Border Dispute - Chief Minister's Perspective in 2021"
The ongoing border disputes between India and China have seen several significant escalations, with clashes at Galwan Valley and the South Bank of Pangong Lake being the most notable.
In June 2020, escalation of tensions between the two countries occurred in Eastern Ladakh, leading to clashes at Galwan Valley. These clashes resulted in the death or injury of 20 Indian soldiers and over 40 Chinese soldiers, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing border disputes.
Similarly, confrontations between Indian and Chinese soldiers at the South Bank of Pangong Lake led to further casualties. According to Rajnath Singh, the Defense Minister, there were no casualties or serious injuries to Indian troops in the scuffle.
The clashes at Galwan Valley and the South Bank of Pangong Lake were not isolated incidents. They were part of the ongoing border disputes between the two nations.
Following these incidents, Indian soldiers forced Chinese soldiers to retreat, preventing a potential land-grab, as per Rajnath Singh's statement. Furthermore, Indian and Chinese soldiers withdrew from several border areas, including Gogra-Hot Springs in Ladakh, following conferences between army leaders from both countries.
Prior to these incidents, Rajnath Singh made a declaration in Parliament about an incident in Yangtse, Tawang on December 9. However, the person who claimed in a tweet that the Indian army would give an appropriate response to any individual attempting to cross the border treaty has not been identified.
The clashes at Galwan Valley marked a significant escalation in the ongoing border disputes. They followed a series of smaller incidents, including one at the South Bank of Pangong Lake, which was another site of conflict between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
The escalation of border tensions between India and China has also been reflected in other regions. For instance, a clash between soldiers of the two countries took place in the Tawang market of Arunachal Pradesh, prompting Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu to issue a statement on Twitter, threatening a response if anyone attempts to overstep.
Pema Khandu's constituency is Yangtse, and he meets with Jawans and citizens of the area every year. His statement comes after the incident in Yangtse, Tawang on December 9.
As the border disputes continue, both nations are working towards resolving the issues through negotiations and withdrawal of troops from several border areas. However, the recent incidents highlight the need for continued vigilance and a firm response from both sides to maintain peace and security along the border.
