Chimaev humbly compares his UFC title to legends' historic reigns

Khamzat Chimaev recently shared a podcast stage with two MMA legends, T.J. Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson. The meeting brought together fighters with vastly different records and reputations. Chimaev, the current middleweight champion, responded modestly when compared to the sport's greats. Chimaev claimed his first and only UFC title at UFC 319 on August 16, 2025. He defeated Dricus du Plessis by unanimous decision to win the middleweight belt. Despite this achievement, his career count stands at just one championship victory.

During the podcast, the conversation turned to comparisons with all-time greats. Johnson, a former long-reigning flyweight king, holds the UFC record for most consecutive title defences—11. Dillashaw, another bantamweight standout, has secured five championship wins in his career.

When labelled among 'the greatest UFC champions of all time,' Chimaev quickly downplayed the praise. His response was simple: 'No, no. Brother, one belt versus 20 belts.' The remark highlighted the gap between his single title and the combined achievements of Johnson and Dillashaw. The exchange underscored Chimaev's respect for fighters with deeper championship legacies. Johnson and Dillashaw remain benchmark figures in MMA history, while Chimaev's career is still unfolding. For now, his middleweight reign continues, but the contrast in experience remains clear.
