Venture to Düsseldorf's Mini-Olympics Spectacle!

Are you ready for a week-long sports bonanza? Get set for the Olympic Adventure Camp (OAC) opening next Saturday (29.7.) on Apollo Square, nestled beneath the Rhine knee bridge. From 1 to 7 pm, unleash your athletic prowess in about 50 sports, ranging from classic Olympics staples like running, fencing, and soccer to quirky ones such as crate climbing and pole jumping. pedal-powered go-karts are also up for grabs! Düsseldorf's jubilant mayor, Burkhard Hintzsche, anticipates a staggering 100,000 visitors.

The camp is a free-for-all playground for kids, youngsters, and young adults between the ages of 6 and 21 (but don't worry, the little ones can join in too at certain stations). Curious minds eager to learn about UEFA EURO 2024 volunteer opportunities can visit the information booth from 29 July to 1 August and register on the spot.

The OAC is a welcoming space for all children, even those with disabilities. Special attention will be given to kids with disabilities on August 1, as the theme of the day is "Inclusion in Sports."

With approximately 160 volunteers supporting the event, sports stations, and guiding visitors, the Sports Department has shelled out around 80,000 euros for this exciting week. The camp made its debut in 2004 in sync with the Athens Olympics, and local sports organizations, the Youth Department, Sports Association, and various clubs are pitching in this time as well. To quench your thirst during the events, the city's waterworks will offer drinking water at several stations, so don't forget to bring a bottle! If the weather turns scorching, L'Oreal will provide sunscreen for those in need.

The OAC serves as a sneak peek at the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship happening right here in Düsseldorf. In the initial four days, staff from the Sports Department and UEFA will promote volunteering opportunities for the event, targeting 1,600 enthusiastic volunteers.

As for other related ventures, the Olympic Iron Camp 2025 in Italy focuses mainly on trekking, biking, e-biking, and canoeing. Though not in Düsseldorf per se, it offers a similar flavor of outdoor fun and adventure. Alternatively, Hamburg is vying for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Olympic Games, with plans for new sporting facilities. But keep in mind: these initiatives have nothing to do with the OAC in Düsseldorf.

Preview Düsseldorf's thrilling sports and adventure spectacle, and don't forget to mark your calendars for an incredible week ahead!

Join the excitement of the Olympic Adventure Camp (OAC) as it features a wide range of sports, including football, from 29th July to 1st August. Participate in various football activities and experience the unique blend of sports, adventure, and volunteer opportunities for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024.
