A man in Idukki, Kerala, has been sentenced to three life terms by the Idukki Fast Track Special Court, to be served until his death. The sentence was handed down for repeatedly sexually assaulting his minor daughter over a period of three years.

The assault took place at the family's rented accommodation near Karimanoor. The abuse began when the girl was five years old and continued until she turned eight. The court convicted the man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The case came to light in 2020 when the girl, who was eight at the time, revealed the abuse to her mother. The information regarding the repeated sexual abuse was revealed during the mother's detailed questioning and subsequent counselling.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the father, which is to be given to his daughter if recovered. If the fine is not paid, the man will face an additional six years in prison. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide adequate compensation to the child.

The prosecution sought the maximum punishment for the accused, and the court accepted the request. The special public prosecutor for the case was Shijomon Joseph. The sentencing was carried out by Idukki Fast Track Special Court judge Manju V.

It is important to note that the abuse occurred at both the rented accommodations where the family lived. The girl's statement revealed that the sexual abuse occurred at their house from when she was in class 1.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from sexual offences and the need for swift and severe punishment for those who commit such heinous crimes. The court's decision sends a strong message that such acts will not be tolerated and will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
