Since its mind-blowing debut on Netflix in March 2025, "Adolescence" has been setting the world on fire, winning over critics and audiences alike. And now, it's raking in the accolades. At the Gotham TV Awards on June 2, 2025, this groundbreaking British series snatched an impressive three out of four awards.
The esteemed Gotham TV Awards jury hailed "Adolescence" as the best miniseries. A-list actor Stephen Graham, who not only stars in the series but also penned some of its memorable lines, clinched the gender-neutral category for best lead role in a miniseries. Graham plays the father of the 13-year-old boy, Jamie Miller, who sends shockwaves through their community when he's accused of murdering a classmate.
"Adolescence" Takes the Gold
Jamie, the young murder suspect, also scored a Gotham Award in the best supporting role category, shares the trophy with Jenny Slate from "Dying for Sex." Erin Doherty, who nails her portrayal of a psychologist in episode three of "Adolescence," had to settle for second place in this category, despite her jaw-dropping performance.
The Gotham TV Awards, now in their second year, took place on June 2, 2025. They're the offspring of the Gotham Awards, which have been dishing out prizes since 1991. Originally, the jury handed out awards for both films and TV formats. But in 2024, television series and documentaries splintered off from their broadcasting and streaming counterparts.
Unlike most major television awards like the Emmys or Golden Globes, the Gotham TV Awards only appreciate fresh productions. Best comedy series went to "The Studio," a hilarious comedy brainchild of Seth Rogen. In the drama category, "The Pitt," a hospital series that leaves no stone unturned, earned top honors from the jury.
