Little Girl's Fate Unveiled in Bingen, Baden-Württemberg
The grim discovery of a young girl's body in a river in Bingen, Swabia, has brought an unfortunate end to the weeks-long search for a missing two-year-old. The divers, summoned from the police headquarters, tapped into the expertise of the DLRG, who contributed with their boat and sonar equipment.
The search operation began early Tuesday at Hitzkofen, downstream of the Lauchert, and extended to the riverbank, where both rescue workers and police officers conducted ground searches. On Monday, sniffer dogs from the police tracked down a lead to the river, which was consistent with the girl's family home's proximity to the water.
The river search and dives had already been launched on Sunday, but the little girl was not found during that time. Divers were also deployed to search the nearby weir, located between Bingen and Sigmaringendorf, where the Lauchert flows into the Danube.
The authorities believed that the two-year-old had gone missing from her parents' home, likely in her pyjamas, during an unnoticed moment late on Sunday afternoon. While the incident is currently being treated as an accident, investigations are ongoing.
