Brandi Carlile, The Chicks, and Sam Smith Headline the 7th Annual Girls Just Wanna Weekend

Brandi Carlile, The Chicks, and Sam Smith will co-headline the 7th annual Girls Just Wanna Weekend, set to take place at Mexico’s Barceló Maya Resort from January 15-19, 2026. The festival, which tends to attract a predominantly LGBTQ+ audience, also draws a sizable contingent of straight attendees, promising a diverse and inclusive atmosphere.

The lineup for the 2026 event reflects this commitment to diversity, featuring a range of genres, humanities, and spirits. Alongside the headliners, artists such as Lucius, Joy Oladokun, CMAT, Allison Ponthier, Jensen McRae, SistaStrings, Jasmine.4.t, Autumn Nichols, Arroba Nat, the Carlile Family Band, and the Marshgrass Mamas are set to perform.

Sam Smith's inclusion in the lineup marks a new milestone for inclusivity at the top of the bill. Smith, who identifies as nonbinary, revealed this in 2019, making them the first Girls Just Wanna Weekend headliner to have a full set of facial hair.

During the 2022 edition of the festival, Brandi Carlile premiered new material from her upcoming album, "Returning to Me," due in October 2022. She asked the audience not to film it, encouraging a mindful and immersive experience.

A highlight of the 2026 festival is promised to be a Titans of Americana set, featuring unannounced special guests. Past artists who have performed at Girls Just Wanna Weekend include Sarah McLachlan, Janelle Monae, Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Sara Bareilles, Tanya Tucker, Wynonna, Yola, Wendy & Lisa, Patty Griffin, Allison Russell, and Celisse.

The festival's co-hosts, Brandi Carlile, The Chicks, and Sam Smith, have expressed their excitement about the lineup and the diversity it represents. In a post on her Instagram account, Brandi Carlile wrote, "I am beyond thrilled to be a part of this incredible lineup and to share the stage with such amazing artists who embody the spirit of Girls Just Wanna Weekend."

Comedian Kristin Key will return for the 2026 edition of the festival, adding a touch of humour to the event. Variety has coverage of the 2022 Girls Just Wanna Weekend, including articles titled "Brandi Carlile's 'Girls Just Wanna Weekend' Has Sisters Doing It for Themselves - and Doing a Mindful, Immersive Festival Better Than Anybody" and "Shania Twain and Brandi Carlile on Teaming Up for an All-Female-Headliner Festival, and Why Women Supporting Women Is Always 'Right on Time'."

Ticket packages for the festival include accommodations, food and drink, nightly concerts, afternoon poolside performances, seminars, workshops, and some offsite excursions. The 2026 Girls Just Wanna Weekend lineup promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
