Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings with a Twist

Serving: 5 Portions

Ingredients

  • 2.5 lbs frozen chicken wings, thawed and pat-dried
  • 2.5 Tbsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • 2.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 2.5 Tbsp neutral oil
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 0.25 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2.5 tsp lemon pepper seasoning, for finishing
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine the lemon pepper seasoning, kosher salt, baking powder, and onion powder in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. Pat the chicken wings dry and place them in a large bowl. Add the oil, then toss to coat evenly.
  4. Toss the wings in the seasoning mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  5. Place the seasoned wings in a single layer in the air fryer. Cook for 15 minutes, then flip the wings and cook for another 13-15 minutes, until the skin is golden brown and crispy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Oven

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the lemon pepper seasoning, kosher salt, baking powder, and onion powder in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. Pat the chicken wings dry and place them in a large bowl. Coat them with oil, then toss evenly.
  4. Transfer the wings to the baking sheet and sprinkle them with the seasoning mixture. Make sure each wing is well-coated.
  5. Bake the wings for 20 minutes. Flip each wing and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.

Sauce

  1. While the wings are cooking, melt 3 Tbsp of butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and simmer for about 1 minute.
  2. Stir in the honey, lemon juice, and 2.5 tsp of lemon pepper seasoning. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, until the sauce has thickened. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

Serving

  1. Toss the cooked wings in 1/4 cup of sauce to coat evenly.
  2. Transfer the wings to a serving platter, sprinkling with fresh parsley for garnish.
  3. Serve with the remaining sauce in a small bowl for dipping.

Enjoy your lemon pepper chicken wings with a twist, cooked to perfection, whether using an air fryer or oven!

Enrichment Data

If you desire a more "fusion"-style presentation, consider combining these lemon pepper chicken wings with sweet and sour or honey mustard sauces for dipping. This adds a new layer of flavor and enhances the overall experience, bringing in an Asian or American twist. You can find recipes for sweet and sour and honey mustard sauces in cookbooks or online.

If you're interested in reducing the sodium content of this recipe, consider substituting regular kosher salt with reduced-sodium salt or experimenting with herbs like rosemary or thyme for added flavor.

You can also try different chicken parts for this recipe, such as drumsticks or thighs, if portioning wings to five guests is not feasible or preferred.
