Chicago taunts the Rams with icy swagger ahead of playoff showdown
Chicago has rolled out a frosty welcome for the LA Rams ahead of their Divisional Round playoff clash with the Chicago Bears. The city turned up the hype with glowing landmarks, icy sculptures, and a cheeky billboard message targeting the visiting team as they arrived for the 2018 showdown.
The Merchandise Mart was bathed in the Bears’ logo, while the Willis Tower’s antenna glowed in team colours—blue and orange—to rally fans. Outside the Mart, a Caleb Williams ice sculpture stood on display for most of Thursday, adding to the chilly Chicago weather.
Over on the Kennedy Expressway, a billboard grabbed attention with a bold taunt: Hey LA, we dare you to lick the goal post. Welcome to Chicago. The idea came from Tom Condon, Creative Director at Schafer Condon Carter, who worked with Old National Bank to flip their usual ad into a playful jab at the Rams. Fans packed the city with energy, hoping the extra buzz would push the Bears toward a win and a spot in the NFC Championship Game.
The Rams faced more than just cold Chicago weather upon landing in the city. Between the illuminated skyline, the ice sculpture, and the daring billboard, the city made its support for the Bears loud and clear. The stage is now set for a high-stakes playoff battle at Soldier Field.
