Chicago Cubs Secure Postseason Berth, Aiming for World Series

The Chicago Cubs have clinched a postseason berth for the first time since 2020, marking a significant milestone for the team. As of now, they are leading the NL Wild Card and are 4 1/2 games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cubs' roster has seen some changes, with All-Star right fielder Kyle Tucker recently joining the team. Tucker, who has been on the IL since Sept. 9 with a left calf injury, has been a valuable addition to the team in his first season with the Cubs. He has been hitting .270 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, another key player for the Cubs, has had a stellar season. Through 95 games before the All-Star Break, he had 25 home runs and 71 RBIs. However, his performance has cooled down considerably since then, with four homers and 19 RBIs. Despite this, his nine years with the team, including being a rookie in 2017 when Chicago won the Central, have been instrumental to the team's success.

The Cubs' recent form has been impressive, winning four straight games and seven victories in eight games. This streak culminated in a 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, with Ian Happ driving in three runs for the Cubs, including a two-run home run in the first inning.

The celebration in the Cubs' clubhouse was a long-awaited one, with champagne flowing and being thrown around. Matthew Boyd, pitcher for the Cubs, stated that making it to the playoffs is hard and the achievement means a lot to the team. Nico Hoerner, another player for the Cubs, shared similar sentiments, saying that celebrating like this is a special thing, but it's not their ultimate goal, and they still want more, aiming for the World Series.

However, the team is facing challenges, with Tucker's recovery from injury and the lack of progress in his current recovery plan causing concern. Craig Counsell, the manager of the Cubs, mentioned that Tucker's current recovery plan is the best way for him to make improvements, but they haven't been making progress.

Despite these challenges, the Cubs remain focused on their goal. Manager Craig Counsell leads the team, and they are determined to make a deep run in the playoffs, aiming for the World Series.
