Chhattisgarh Police Initiates Investigation into the Legitimacy of Maoists' New Peace Negotiations Proposal
Maoist Press Release Proposes Ceasefire and Peace Talks
A press note dated August 15 from the Maoist Central Committee has gone viral on social media, seeking a suspension of anti-Naxal operations for a month to engage in talks with their cadres and leaders. The note also expresses a readiness to join the mainstream and participate in mass struggles with political parties.
The Maoists are willing to talk with the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Chief Ministers, their representatives, or any authorized delegation. However, no response has been given by the Center to the Maoist's peace talk offer as of the note's date.
The police are examining all factors to ascertain the authenticity of the Maoist press release. The unusual presentation of the proposal in the Naxal note, as well as the possibility of it being an artificial intelligence (AI) generated note, are under investigation by the Chhattisgarh police. The Bastar range inspector general of police has confirmed that they have taken note of the press release and are verifying its authenticity.
The Maoist press note recalls serious and sincere efforts made since March 2025 to initiate peace talks with the government. A photograph of the spokesman of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) is found in the Naxal press release, adding credibility to the note.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Assembly Session is scheduled to begin on Thursday, and the opposition plans to corner the Majhi government during the session.
It is important to note that any decision on engagement or dialogue with the CPI (Maoist) lies solely with the government. The government will make an appropriate call after due consideration and assessment of the situation and circumstances regarding the Maoist issue. A senior police officer, part of the counterinsurgency strategies, has stated that the police will give a further response once they are 100% convinced about the authenticity of the press release.
Co-chair Foza Yusif believes that a co-chair model can transform politics, but this fact is not directly related to the Maoist issue.
As the situation develops, we will continue to monitor the Maoist peace talk offer and provide updates on the progress of the investigation and the government's response.
