Chhattisgarh Finance Minister Presents Handwritten Budget of Rs 1,65,100 Crore

In a unique and historic move, the Chhattisgarh Finance Minister, O P Choudhury, presented a handwritten budget of 100 pages for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the Assembly. This is the first time a finance minister in a state has presented a handwritten annual budget in the house, marking a departure from the tradition of computer-typed budgets.

The budget, themed 'GYAN for GATI', aims to build on the progress made in the previous year and continue the journey towards achieving the goal for 2030, as part of 'Amrit Kaal Vision 2047'. The budget presents a total expenditure of Rs 1,65,100 crore.

Mr. Choudhury stated that the handwritten budget symbolizes authenticity and transparency in governance. This assertion is supported by the fact that no other Indian state finance minister is recorded to have presented a handwritten annual budget in the house, according to available search results.

The budget proposes the creation of a Special Operation Group (SOG) in the line of the National Security Guard (NSG) for speedy disposal of cases related to Maoist violence. The budget has given special focus to the development of Leftwing extremism-hit Bastar, as mentioned earlier.

Provisions were made to accelerate infrastructure development, including the establishment of mobile towers in remote areas, particularly in Bastar. The budget introduces ten new schemes relating to infrastructure development.

The chief minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, stated that the budget presents the next step in the developmental journey started by the previous year's budget, themed GYAN (Gareeb, Yuva, Annadata, and Nari). The budget in the digital age holds significance, according to Mr. Choudhury.

The budget's focus on Bastar and the establishment of a SOG indicates a strengthened approach towards addressing the ongoing issue of Maoist violence in the region. The introduction of new infrastructure schemes suggests a commitment to improving the overall development of the state. The presentation of a handwritten budget is a testament to Mr. Choudhury's dedication to transparency and authenticity in governance.
