Chengdu's Misolic is experiencing serious sickness
In the opening round of the ATP-250 tournament in Chengdu, Austria's top-ranked tennis player, Filip Misolic, suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of sixth-seeded Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Misolic began the tournament 'half healthy' and was still recovering from an illness, which may have affected his performance. Despite a promising start in the first set, where he led 5:3, Misolic struggled to maintain his form.
The turning point of the match came in the second set, as Mpetshi Perricard, currently ranked 36th in the world, found his serve and dominated the game, winning 6:1. Misolic was chasing the scoreboard from this point onwards and could not recover.
The score of the match was 6:3, 1:6, 4:6 in favor of Mpetshi Perricard. Misolic conceded an early break in the third set, which ultimately sealed his defeat.
Despite this setback, Misolic will have another opportunity to earn important ranking points in late October 2025, as he has received a wildcard to participate in the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. This tournament will provide him with a chance to regain his form and climb up the rankings.
