Niners Chemnitz Bite the Dust in BBL Quarter-Finals
The basketball team of Chemnitz, known as the Niners, has been eliminated from the race for the Deutsche Meisterschaft playoff semi-finals. Coach Rodrigo Pastore's squad endured a 64-92 (41-48) defeat against the MLP Academics Heidelberg on Tuesday, losing the Best-of-Five series 1-3.
Michael Weathers of Heidelberg spearheaded the victory with 24 points, while Kevin Yebo was the top scorer for the visiting Niners, netting 12 points.
Initially, the match remained tight, with Chemnitz leading 32-30 after the first quarter. However, Heidelberg took charge from a score of 37-37 (18th minute) to establish a commanding 62-47 (28th minute) lead. By this point, Chemnitz's hopes of reversing the tide waned, and Heidelberg cruised to a berth in the final four.
In the next round, Heidelberg will square off against FC Bayern Munich.
