Chelsea triumphs over PSG in commanding fashion, clinching the FIFA Club World Cup thanks to Cole Palmer's leadership.

Chelsea emerged victorious in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final, defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a commanding 3-0 scoreline at MetLife Stadium.

The London-based side took an early lead, with Cole Palmer scoring two identical goals in the 22nd and 30th minutes, both left-footed strikes from inside the box. João Pedro added a third goal in the 43rd minute, chipping PSG's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after a precise assist from Palmer.

Chelsea's defense and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez played a pivotal role in limiting PSG's chances, despite the French side's possession dominance, which stood at 67%.

Key players for Chelsea included Palmer, who finished the season with 18 goals, and João Pedro, a recent transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion. Palmer's impressive performance earned him the Golden Ball Award, given to the best player of the tournament, while Sanchez was awarded the Golden Glove.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Chelsea and their manager, Enzo Maresca, who secured his second trophy as Chelsea's head coach. For PSG, the loss marks a disappointing end to their season, having not suffered a three-goal defeat since a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Newcastle in October 2023.

Tensions flared up after the final whistle, resulting in a confrontation between Pedro and Donnarumma and manager Luis Enrique. Maresca spoke with Donnarumma after the scuffle to cool tensions.

The halftime show featured performances by Coldplay and other musicians. The trophy celebration on the field was led by US President Donald Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

With the Club World Cup triumph, Chelsea has clinched a UEFA Champions League berth for next season. They now have less than five weeks until the 2025-2026 EPL season begins, while PSG has a quick turnaround and will face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.

In addition, 20-year-old PSG forward Désiré Doué was named the best young player of the tournament. The win was Chelsea's second Club World Cup title in their history. Palmer expressed his satisfaction about winning the tournament and commended Maresca for his leadership.

Chelsea's victory in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final, achieved through a commanding 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), grants them a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. This is their second Club World Cup title, with João Pedro and Cole Palmer, who earned the Golden Ball Award, being key contributors to their success. Meanwhile, PSG, despite their season dominance in European leagues like the Champions League and Premier League, faces a quick turnaround as they prepare for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on August 13.
