Chelsea Secures Victory Forecasted by Supercomputer in World Cup Quarterfinals

In a highly anticipated clash, English football powerhouse Chelsea will face Brazilian champions Palmeiras in the quarter-final of the Club World Championship on July 5 at the Lincoln Financial Field stadium. This will mark the second encounter between the two teams in the tournament, with Chelsea having last faced Palmeiras in 2022.

According to the Supercomputer Opta’s simulations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match, Chelsea are strong favourites to advance, with a 74.8% probability to move into the semi-finals. The simulations suggest that Chelsea progressed to the semi-finals within regular time (90 minutes) in 64.8% of the runs, while Palmeiras only won in regular time in 15.3% of the simulations.

However, Palmeiras have had a tough run to reach this stage, securing their quarter-final spot with a 1-0 extra-time win over Botafogo, despite finishing with 10 men due to a red card. On the other hand, Chelsea reached this stage after a dramatic 4-1 extra-time victory over Benfica, a match that was halted for two hours due to weather conditions.

The Brazilian side has been hit hard by suspensions, losing two key defenders for the crucial encounter. Despite this, the chances of Palmeiras are evaluated at 15.3%, offering a glimmer of hope for the South American team.

Interestingly, the match will feature a personal storyline as Palmeiras’ young winger Estêvão Willian has agreed to join Chelsea ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

The probability of a draw between the two teams stands at 19.9%, offering a potential nail-biting ending if predictions hold true.

In their previous encounter in 2022, Chelsea emerged victorious in extra time. Pedro Neto, the main striker for Chelsea, has been in fine form, scoring 3 goals in 3 tournament matches.

The quarter-final clash promises to be an exciting encounter, with Chelsea heavily favoured to win and move closer to Club World Cup glory. The match will kick off at 4:00 Moscow time.

Bookmakers are anticipating a Chelsea victory in the quarter-final match against Palmeiras in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, given the strong favourite status granted by Opta's simulations, with a 74.8% probability for Chelsea to advance. Despite Palmeiras' tough run to reach the quarter-finals and losses due to suspensions, their chances are evaluated at 15.3%, offering a glimmer of hope for the South American team, especially considering the personal connection between Palmeiras' young winger Estêvão Willian and Chelsea, who has agreed to join them for the 2025-2026 season.
