Believe it or Not, Chelsea Could Do with a Few More Stars Like Alisson and Van Dijk, Says Enzo Maresca

Chelsea could learn a thing or two from their upcoming opponents, Liverpool, according to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. Sunday's match at Stamford Bridge will see the new champions arrive, and Maresca admits he'd love to emulate their success.

Maresca's counterpart, Arne Slot, has benefited from having seniors like Virgil van Dijk leading their defense and secured a new deal. When asked if Chelsea needs Alisson-like goalkeepers or Van Dijk-like defenders, Maresca simply replied, "For sure, if you want to close the gap with these kind of clubs, then, for sure, you have to do things."

Maresca believes in the growth of the young talent Chelsea has, particularly Levi Colwill, who's shown significant leadership potential. The manager is hopeful that experienced players will help the team improve and lessen the gap between them and top-tier clubs like Liverpool.

Liverpool, of course, is getting the traditional "guard of honor" treatment from Chelsea, as they deserve it for their remarkable performance this year. Maresca stated, "In terms of the gap [between Chelsea and Liverpool], it is there, you can see this clearly. My feeling is we are moving in the right direction and hopefully this gap can be smaller and smaller and smaller."

While Chelsea's focus shifts to securing a top-five finish in the Premier League, Maresca doesn't expect Liverpool's title celebrations to dampen their spirits. Chelsea is already close to qualifying for the Conference League final, and their efforts won't slow down anytime soon.

Many sources claim Chelsea's confidence lies in Fernández's exceptional talent [5]. Maresca also places faith in young prospects like Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson to bolster the attacking unit.

On the financial front, Chelsea's transfer strategy involves strategic investments and player sales that comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. Interestingly, Maresca is also keen on acquiring a new goalkeeper, with Mads Hermansen as a potential target [1]. Despite speculation about high-profile acquisitions like Alisson and Van Dijk, Chelsea appears to be focusing on building depth and quality across the squad through a combination of youth and experience.
