Chelsea crumble under Arsenal from the sidelines
Arsenal's Dominant Start to the Premier League Season
Celebrated manager Arsene Wenger has confessed that Arsenal holds a promising chance to claim top spot in the English Premier League, following a 2-0 victory over Bolton on Wednesday. The Gunners' win means they could overtake Chelsea and take the lead in the league.
After being deemed as potential title contenders in November following Chelsea's loss to Arsenal 0-3 at the Emirates Stadium, Wenger's squad has shown significant improvement. Chelsea and United faced surprisingly close matches in the following weeks, whereas Arsenal took advantage of their opportunity and played some electrifying football.
Wenger emphasized the psychological importance of maintaining momentum, saying, "It definitely matters psychologically, not just statistically." He admitted that, at the start of the season, Arsenal had doubts about their squad's prowess and current placement, but now they are realizing their potential.
"Years ago, our team's strength was evident, and we've shown that we're capable of competing," added Wenger. "However, with a young team, more challenges are on the horizon, but we're focused and ready to meet them."
While a league win would put Arsenal one step closer to the title, Chelsea will provide stiff competition in the following games, so Wenger must not get complacent.
Wenger is confident in the skills of captain and star midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who was hailed as the league's best central player this season and shone against Bolton with a stunning goal and several breathtaking assists. Upcoming games against Chelsea and United will require Fabregas to maintain peak form to keep Arsenal in the title race.
"Fabregas is truly the captain we've been looking for in the midfield and has been instrumental in crucial matches," gushed Wenger. "He passed the test at Reebok Stadium, and his performance was fantastic for us."
With Samir Nasri, young midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Fran Merida, and the return of Theo Walcott and Denilson, the Arsenal squad remains strong as they face tough matches against their competitors. Walcott returned from injury and, along with the addition of fresh players, will provide the firepower needed to outpace rivals such as Chelsea and United.
"They'll be available for the match on Wednesday, which is excellent news as they've been away for a while, and their return will provide additional energy to our offensive line," stated Wenger. - AFP
