Charlize Theron Discusses Aerial Stunts in 'The Old Guard 2', Potential Third Installment and Her Absence from Directing: 'Kids Home First'
In an exhilarating turn of events, actress Charlize Theron has shared that her favourite stunt in the Netflix sequel, "The Old Guard 2," was hanging off a helicopter. The daring sequence, which Theron described as both intricate and psychological, involved about two weeks of preparation and trust-building with the helicopter pilot.
Theron, who also serves as a producer on the franchise, expressed a mix of exhilaration and disbelief during the stunt, saying, "I was hanging in the air, going, ‘I’m going to never be able to stop saying that I hung off a helicopter’."
The helicopter stunt was performed towards the end of the movie's filming, following a period of careful preparation. Theron spent the first two weeks of the helicopter scene building trust with the pilot through slow movements before progressing to physically hanging off the helicopter.
"The Old Guard 2," directed by Victoria Mahoney, is a movie adaptation of Greg Rucka's comic book, and it continues the story of a group of immortal mercenaries. In this sequel, the immortals are trying to save mankind from two of their own, Discord (Uma Thurman) and Quỳnh (Veronica Ngô).
The second film of "The Old Guard" ends on a spectacular cliffhanger, potentially setting up a third movie. Producer Marc Evans has expressed enthusiasm about the possibility, stating that the ending of the second film demands it. Charlize Theron, who has not ruled out the possibility of a third film, has also expressed a willingness to return, saying they will take a break and then decide.
As for Theron's future directing aspirations, she has stated that she needs her young children to grow up more before she can fully commit to directing due to the all-consuming nature of the role.
