Charlie Woods Takes On the Junior PGA Championships

The Junior PGA Championships, one of golf's Major championships for juniors, is currently underway at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's courses. This prestigious event features both a girls and boys event, and this year, a notable participant is Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, a 15-time Major winner.

Charlie Woods opted to play in the Junior PGA Championships instead of the South Florida PGA Junior Cup. Despite his decision, he found himself in a challenging position after round one, tying for 46th place with a one-under-par round of 70.

However, Woods started strongly in the tournament, recording birdies on holes 4, 6, 9, and 11. Unfortunately, he struggled at the US Junior Amateur Championship last week, finishing 14-over-par.

Meanwhile, Chase Yenser leads the field with a score of 64, six shots better than Woods. Raghav Gulati is in second place, two shots behind Yenser.

The Junior PGA Championships has a rich history of producing talented golfers. Notable past winners in the boys division include Pat Perez, Trevor Immelman, Denny McCarthy, Sam Burns, Akshay Bhatia, Caleb Surratt, Miles Russell, and Lunden Esterline, who won the 49th Junior PGA Championship in 2025 by six strokes at Purdue University.

In the girls division, notable winners include Cristie Kerr, Inbee Park, Yuka Saso, and Lexi Thompson, who, at the age of 12, became the youngest winner in the girls division in 2007. Thompson is included here for context, as she is also a participant in this year's Junior PGA Championships.

The winner and runner-up of the Junior PGA Championships will secure a spot on the Junior Ryder Cup team in September. The Junior Ryder Cup takes place at Nassau Country Club for the first two days and Bethpage Black for the final round singles.

As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see how Woods and the other participants fare. The 36-hole and 54-hole cut will narrow the field, and the competition is sure to heat up. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting event.

Despite his challenging start at the Junior PGA Championships, Charlie Woods intends to showcase his skills in sports, particularly golf, after opting to play in this Major championship for juniors instead of the South Florida PGA Junior Cup. Meanwhile, Chase Yenser is currently leading the tournament with a score of 64, six shots better than Woods, putting pressure on the golfing prodigy.
