New Attempt for Charlie Woods at U.S. Open Qualifier

Well, Charlie Woods, the son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, took another swing at qualifying for the U.S. Open last Monday. His target was the Wellington Golf Club in Florida, a familiar battlefield for his dream. Unfortunately, the 16-year-old ended up shooting a three-over-par 75, leaving him seven strokes adrift from securing one of the five spots on offer for the 36-hole final qualifier taking place on June 2 at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach, Florida.

This eye-catching round wasn't enough to propel Charlie to the next stage. It's a bittersweet moment for the young prospect, as this isn't his first rodeo. Remember, he attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open last year, but his debut didn't go as planned, with an 81 at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida during the qualifying round.

Tiger, a three-time U.S. Open champion, is expected to stay on the sidelines this year, dealing with a torn left Achilles tendon. Meanwhile, the father-son duo has been a regular feature in the PNC Championship for parents and children over the past five years. Their best finish came in 2024 and 2021, where they placed second.

They say practice makes perfect, but luck hasn't fully favored Charlie Woods in his attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open. Despite missing the cut for the U.S. Junior Amateur last July, he managed to win a qualifying event for the tournament. Here's hoping Charlie grabs his opportunity at the 36-hole final qualifier next month and plays his way into the prestigious U.S. Open. Fingers crossed!

Charlie Woods, aiming for another attempt at the U.S. Open in 2025, missed the cut for the 36-hole final qualifier despite a promising round at the Wellington Golf Club. Despite his recent success at a qualifying event for the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2022, he has yet to secure a place in the prestigious sports competition.
