In a remarkable show of solidarity, the city of Osnabrück has decided to gift its beloved crane, affectionately known as "Jumbo", to the people of Ukraine. This decision was made by the city council unanimously, instead of selling it through a federal customs auction.

For over three decades, "Jumbo" has served the city diligently, earning the respect and affection of the local fire department. Now, it's time for the vehicle to lend its strength where the need is greatest - in Kryvy Rih, Ukraine.

The vehicle, a 1992 Liebherr LTM 1040, will be transported by a shipping company to its new home in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine. Brothers Konrad and Roland Schönberg, representing the non-profit organisation "Ukraine Help Osnabrück-Krakau-Ternopil e.V.", accepted the vehicle keys on behalf of the local fire department in Kryvy Rih.

"Ukraine Help Osnabrück-Krakau-Ternopil e.V." has been at the forefront of organising aid shipments to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. This donation is part of their ongoing efforts, which also include facilitating the shipping of fire trucks and medical supplies from the Osnabrück region.

Mayor Katharina Pötter emphasised that the donation of "Jumbo" is a message of support to the people of Ukraine. The organisation, in accepting the donated crane, expressed their gratitude for the support.

The Osnabrück fire department, meanwhile, has a modern replacement for "Jumbo", ensuring that their local operations continue uninterrupted.

This act of kindness serves as a beacon of hope, symbolising the unity and compassion that transcends borders in times of crisis. The city of Osnabrück stands with Ukraine, and "Jumbo" is testament to that spirit.
