Charitable contributions surpass £100 million at border in effort to supply humanitarian aid
In a show of solidarity and support, various organisations and individuals have donated millions of baht to aid those affected by the unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border.
Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co Ltd, led by Mr. Keeree Kanjanapas, announced an additional 50 million baht donation. This brings their total contribution to 100 million baht, intended to support military personnel injured, disabled, or killed during the conflict, as well as their families.
Joining BTS in their generous donation is the Thai-Chinese Friendship Foundation and Yongxing Steel (Thailand) Co Ltd, who jointly donated three million baht. The Tio Chew Association of Thailand, along with several other Chinese associations, donated 2.49 million baht.
Her Royal Highness Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, in a remarkable display of compassion, donated personal funds supplemented by public contributions to assist the Suranaree Task Force. The exact amount donated by the Princess and from the public donation drive is not specified, but it contributes significantly to the over 100 million baht already donated to the Thai government for border residents.
The Reignwood Foundation (Thailand) also contributed 2.57 million baht in cash, medical equipment, and daily necessities. The donations are not limited to financial support but also include goods.
The Ministry of Culture's Department of Religious Affairs has initiated a public donation drive to aid those impacted by the unrest along the border. The additional donation will be split among the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy, and Royal Thai Air Force.
Mr. Keeree encouraged the public and all organisations to make contributions to boost the morale of those serving on the frontlines. He expressed deep condolences and admiration for the bravery and sacrifice of Thai soldiers stationed on the frontlines.
The donations were made by private organisations through the Office of the Prime Minister's disaster relief fund. The donation ceremony was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai at Government House.
