Charges of second-degree murder filed following fatal downtown Toronto gunfire incident
Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Downtown Toronto Shooting
A 26-year-old man from Mississauga, Mitch Rambali, has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a shooting incident that took place in downtown Toronto on August 2, 2025. The shooting, which occurred near John Street and Adelaide Street West, resulted in the death of a 36-year-old victim, Jeshua Gabriel Buchoon, who died in hospital on August 6, 2025.
Initially, two men, Rambali and Steve Ganesh, were arrested near the scene of the shooting, and a firearm was recovered. The shooting was described by police as a "violent and brazen" incident, involving a brief interaction between the suspect and the victims who were not known to each other prior to the incident.
Rambali was initially charged with aggravated assault but the charge was upgraded to second-degree murder after the victim died. It's unclear if any charges will be upgraded against Ganesh.
Jeshua Gabriel Buchoon was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, he was inadvertently struck by a vehicle that was not involved in the shooting, but was attempting to flee the gunfire. This vehicle is now part of an ongoing traffic collision investigation, being handled by Traffic Services.
The shooting marks the city's 24th homicide victim of 2025. Police have not yet revealed what may have motivated the shooting. They are urging the public to provide any further information that may help in their ongoing investigation.
Rambali is scheduled to appear in Toronto court on Friday following the charges being laid. The police investigation remains ongoing.
