Caroline Bosbach rejects fresh accusations - Charges denied by Caroline Bosbach anew

In the midst of the current communal election campaign in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), CDU Bundestag member Caroline Bosbach has found herself embroiled in a controversy over allegations regarding her election to the executive board of Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT) in 2023.

Bosbach, known for her appearance on the RTL show "Let's Dance" and the daughter of the former CDU interior politician Wolfgang Bosbach, has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting they are based on manipulated chat logs leaked to the press. The news portal "t-online" and the ARD magazine "Kontraste" reported these allegations, which include offering a payment of 90 euros for MIT entry and promising free catering to secure her election.

In a video response released this week, Bosbach reiterated her denial, stating that she has not enriched herself and that the CDU Rhein-Berg has not suffered any damage. She also expressed her support for an independent review of the documents.

In response, the executive board of Bosbach's party has decided to hand over all documents to the Cologne public prosecutor's office for investigation. Bosbach is currently examining whether she can take legal action against the campaign aimed at damaging her credibility.

Notably, Bosbach will not attend any election campaign events until the allegations have been clarified. She has also urged that the fabricated and manipulated allegations against her not be the subject of conversation at public appearances.

In a separate but unrelated development, there has been a controversy surrounding Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, a nominee for the Federal Constitutional Court. Allegations against Brosius-Gersdorf include suspicions of plagiarism in her doctoral thesis, raised by a plagiarism investigator who found multiple suspicious similarities with her husband's habilitation work, which was submitted later. The CDU and its coalition partners have expressed political concerns about her positions, particularly on topics such as abortion.

Brosius-Gersdorf, however, has denied the allegations and characterized the political criticism as a defamatory campaign. The controversy has caused a political conflict within the coalition, particularly impacting CDU-Fraktionschef Jens Spahn’s reputation.

No legal actions against Brosius-Gersdorf or specifically involving Caroline Bosbach were found in the available information. It should be noted that the information provided primarily concerns Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, and there are no search results specifically mentioning a CDU Bundestag member Caroline Bosbach controversy involving allegations, denials, or legal actions.

The Commission, in light of the current political turmoil, might be asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of politicians from the risks related to misinformation and defamatory campaigns, as seen in the cases of CDU Bundestag member Caroline Bosbach and Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf.

This controversy surrounding Bosbach, a CDU party member, highlights the need for policy-and-legislation to address the issue of politics and general-news manipulation in election campaigns.
