Chargers Football Player Denzel Perryman Held in Custody Over Serious Firearms Infraction
Chargers Linebacker Denzel Perryman Cleared of Weapons Charges
Denzel Perryman, a key defensive player for the Los Angeles Chargers, has been cleared of weapons charges following an incident on August 2, 2025.
The legal matter arose during a traffic stop made by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, where deputies discovered five firearms, including two assault-style rifles, in Perryman's vehicle.
However, the Los Angeles district attorney decided not to file charges against Perryman, and he was subsequently released from custody. Agent Ron Butler, who represents Perryman, confirmed the development.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh visited Perryman in jail and shared that he was in good spirits. Harbaugh emphasised that Perryman has a clean record, a good family, and that the team will let the due process play out.
Perryman, who was drafted by the Chargers in 2015, returned to the team in 2024 after stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. With the charges dropped, Perryman is expected to resume preparations for the 2025 season and maintain his starting role as a linebacker next to Daiyan Henley.
Austin Knoblauch, another linebacker for the Chargers, was arrested on Friday night on a felony weapons charge by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. A court hearing for Knoblauch has been scheduled for a later date.
The Chargers issued a statement about the incident involving Perryman, stating that they are aware of the matter and are gathering more information. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
