Chaotic spectacle unfolds in Frankfurt's stadium during Galatasaray match
In a night filled with drama and controversy, Eintracht Frankfurt emerged victorious against Galatasaray in the Champions League, winning 5-1. The match, however, was overshadowed by a series of incidents involving the fans of both teams.
Before the game, masked SGE fans set off fireworks outside Galatasaray's hotel, an act initially seen as humorous but now regarded as embarrassing. The tension spilled over into the guest block where a massive brawl erupted, with some fans chasing at least one person up the tribune stairs and beating them repeatedly. Police in heavy gear intervened and ended the fight.
Inside the stadium, Frankfurt fans displayed stolen fan material from Galatasaray, particularly targeting motoshirts and red jackets of the "UltrAslan" fan group. The stolen material was not only displayed but also waved around in the NWC.
Tens of thousands of Galatasaray fans without tickets attempted to attend the game, causing potential trouble. Despite these issues, there were no major clashes during the game, thanks to improved crowd management and seating arrangements.
The fans of both teams were provoked by the behaviour of security personnel, and the issues on the tribune originated from poor crowd management and inadequate seating arrangements.
The incident involving fireworks occurred in the middle of the night, and UEFA has announced a decision regarding this incident. Additionally, at least one fan bus on the stadium parking lot was broken into, with fan material stolen from inside, according to Turkish fan scene reports.
Despite the turbulent start, the match began with a 0:1 deficit for Frankfurt. However, they managed to turn it around, securing a convincing 5-1 victory. This is Frankfurt's second season in the Champions League.
Enemy flags were also waved, adding to the intense atmosphere. However, many Galatasaray fans couldn't take the humiliation on the pitch any longer and left the stadium before the final whistle.
This chaotic encounter between the two rowdy fan scenes serves as a reminder of the passion and rivalry that exists in European football. The focus now shifts to the next round, where both teams will look to put these incidents behind them and focus on the beautiful game.
