HSV's "Game of the Century" Celebrates its 25th Anniversary

On September 13, 2000, a legendary match took place between Hamburg SV (HSV) and Juventus Turin in the Champions League. Twenty-five years later, the "game of the century" was celebrated with a festive anniversary event.

The match, which ended in a thrilling 4:4 draw, is considered the most famous and spectacular draw of HSV's modern era. The coaches involved in the game were Niko Kovač for HSV and Igor Tudor for Juventus, who were also players in that game.

The event was hosted by stadium announcer Christian Stübinger and attended by the coaching duo Frank Pagelsdorf and Armin Reutershahn, along with the team led by then-captain Nico Noogma. All members of the team that played against Juventus Turin were present, except for Andrej Panadic, Bernd Hollerbach, Niko Kovac, Mehdi Mahdavikia, and Anthony Yeboah.

The goals in the match were scored by Tudor (for Juventus), Yeboah, Inzaghi (2 goals for Juventus), Mahdavikia, Butt (penalty for HSV), Kovac, and Inzaghi (penalty for Juventus). The attendance for the match was 48,500.

HSV Netradio commented on the highlights of the match during the anniversary celebration, and Nico Noogma and Marcel Ketelaer expressed their feelings about the "game of the century" after the event. The team will meet again at the next anniversary event.

As a result-oriented sport, a 4:4 draw is not a common outcome in football. However, this match between HSV and Juventus Turin is often referred to as the "game of the century" due to its excitement and unpredictability. The team members who were absent from the starting lineup of the Juve game will be sitting on the tribune for HSV's Bundesliga game against 1. FC Heidenheim.

This anniversary celebration included a stadium tour and a VIP area gathering to watch the game again, providing fans and players with a chance to relive the magic of that unforgettable match. The "game of the century" remains a significant moment in HSV's history, and its anniversary celebration was a testament to its enduring legacy.
