Fiery Morn on Academician Lukanenko Street
Chaos in Krasnodar as Western-2 power station blazes, alarming local inhabitants
Straight-up, folks, there was a commotion in western Krasnodar on June 6th. A fire at a transformer station caused a bit of a ruckus, leaving a stretch of streets in the dark. Thankfully, nobody got hurt and the damages were relatively minor.
This fiery spectacle went down around 10:00 A.M., right smack dab on Academician Lukanenko Street. Consequently, power was cut off, but the experts hopped to it and had the lights back on in nearby homes within a mere 20 minutes. The flames covered an area roughly the size of a small apartment. Even from the fifth floor, it was a struggle to figure out exactly where the gremlins wreaked havoc.
Maria Yatsuk, our local "Kuban 24" TV channel correspondent, gave us the scoop. She reported that the blaze happened in the Slaviansky and Yubileiny districts, causing a partial power outage. What's more, locals even experienced some water supply issues. Besides residential buildings, the area also accommodates commercial businesses heavily dependent on electricity.
"Rosseti Kuban" assured us that power was fully restored to all customers, with no restrictions, and the culprit was a local technological hiccup at the high-voltage substation.
Marina Vasilyeva, a resident near the scene for over five years, has been flipping the light switch in the dark before.
"Three years ago, I witnessed this sub station blow up. It was quite a spectacle, with smoke and fire," said Marina Vasilyeva, a resident of house No. 132 on Academician Lukanenko Street.
As of filming, only a trace of smoke lingered. The "Rosseti" crew and firefighters acted swiftly.
"When we arrived, the first units discovered that a transformer on the substation had caught fire. The flames were extinguished in no time," said Victor Zimin, deputy head of the information and public relations department of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry for Krasnodar Krai.
