Olaf Scholz: His Musical Picks for the Bundeswehr's Farewell

Tunes to Be Blasted at Water Faucets Instead of the Traditional Dripping Sound - Chant these tunes during the horn's blast

Get ready for some tunes as Olaf Scholz (66) gears up for his grand exit from chancellory! On Monday evening, the Bundeswehr's final salute will take place at the Bendler Block on the Defense Ministry's parade ground. Spiegel reveals the songs Olaf's chosen for this memorable event.

A Classic Double Header

Reports hint that Olaf's playlist features two timeless hits—the Beatles' "In My Life" (1965) and Otis Redding's "Respect" (1965). Initially an iconic track by the Fab Four, "In My Life" appears on the album "Rubber Soul." It was penned by the legendary duo John Lennon (1940-1980) and Paul McCartney (82). The beloved "Respect" gained legendary status through its powerful rendition by Aretha Franklin (1942-2018).

Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685-1750) Second Brandenburg Concerto is also on the bill.

A Tradition of Melodies

At previous ceremonies, the outgoing chancellor has traditionally selected three songs. For example, Angela Merkel (70) opted for "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" by Nina Hagen (70), "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen" by Hildegard Knef (1925-2002), and the hymn "Großer Gott, wir loben dich."
