Changes in Dresden Transport System to Take Effect from Monday
Dresden residents and visitors should be prepared for extensive traffic restrictions and changes in the city's street layout during the Finals multisport event, scheduled for August 2-3, 2025.
The competition locations in Dresden are multiple, with the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion being a central hub. However, the traffic restrictions will not be limited to these areas. The Elbe riverbanks on both sides of the city will also be significantly affected.
Starting from July 28, road users in Dresden should expect traffic restrictions that will impact their travel plans. The traffic restrictions are a result of the multisport event and will affect cyclists as well.
From July 31 at 7 am, the streets along the Elbe riverbank, including Weißeritzstraße, Pieschener Allee, Ostra-Ufer, Devrientstraße, Terrassenufer, Theaterplatz, and Sophienstraße, will be closed to cars until August 4. The Schlachthofstraße and Messering will be closed to cars on August 2 and 3, 2025, from 7 am to 11 am.
Cyclists will also face restrictions. The Elbe cycle path on the old town side of the Elbe will be closed to cyclists from July 28 until August 6, 2025, between the Flügelweg bridge and the former Carol bridge. A detour is signposted. The Augustus bridge and the Schlossplatz will also be closed to cyclists from July 30 until August 5, 2025.
On the new town side of the Elbe, the Elbe cycle path will be closed on July 31, 2025, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A detour is also available.
Local and delivery traffic at the Neumarkt will also be restricted from July 31 at 7 am until August 4.
It is advisable to consult official local government or event websites closer to the event date, or contact Dresden city transport authorities directly for the most accurate and detailed information on traffic and cyclist restrictions during the Finals 2025 in Dresden. They typically issue guidelines about road closures, parking restrictions, and alternative routes during major events.
Sports enthusiasts should take note of the traffic restrictions during the multisport event in Dresden, as the sports competition locations and Elbe riverbanks will be significantly affected from July 28 to August 6, 2025. Cyclists participating in, or following the event, should also be aware of the various cycle path closures that have been announced.
