The European Union and the United States have expressed their support for Ukraine's inclusion in peace negotiations with Russia, emphasising the importance of Ukraine's full participation and respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a joint statement, the European Parliament stressed that no peace can be negotiated without Ukraine’s democratically elected leadership fully participating, and any agreement should not legitimise Russia’s forced border changes. The statement also emphasised that peace must be built on international law and Ukraine's will.

Following President Trump’s meeting with Putin, European leaders have expressed their readiness to support a trilateral summit involving Ukraine, emphasising that border changes must not be imposed by force, and that the decision lies with Ukraine. They have welcomed US efforts to end the conflict but noted Russia’s reluctance to make concrete commitments.

The EU continues to adhere to the principle that international borders may not be changed by force, and the current front line should be the starting point for negotiations. The EU Commission is part of the group that submitted a joint statement about the Ukraine conflict.

The Europeans have also emphasised that a path to peace cannot be decided without Ukraine, and that Ukraine has the freedom to decide its own fate. This stance is in line with the position of the US, which has engaged directly with Russia and expressed support for a trilateral summit including Ukraine, Russia, and the US with European backing.

Kyiv's Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha warned against "gifts" to the aggressor, stating that every concession will lead to further aggression. Meanwhile, Dmitri Medvedev, a Putin ally, accused European countries of undermining the Alaska summit.

Despite these challenges, both the EU and the US advocate for Ukraine’s central role in negotiations, reject forcible territorial changes, and seek a just, lasting peace that upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty. The EU’s position is firm on not rewarding aggression, while the US initiative includes direct dialogue with Russia supported by European leaders, aiming for a trilateral negotiation framework.
