More Cash Than Ever Before: Pre-Final Champions League Earnings Break Records
Intern and Paris seek to claim historic prize purse in Champions League competition - Champions League Negotiations: Inter and Paris Enter Discussions Over Potential Record Prize Funds
There's no denying that the Champions League is a powerhouse in European football, both on and off the pitch. With the new competition format and updated distribution keys by UEFA, this season's finalists, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Inter Milan, are set to take home more cash than ever before. The Champions League title winner could net an unprecedented €149 million. To put that into perspective, last year's winners, Real Madrid, bagged €138.8 million.
Come Saturday's final in Munich, the victor will claim €10.5 million. Officially, €4 million of this pot is earmarked as a participation bonus for the UEFA Super Cup, a showdown against the Europa League winners, Tottenham Hotspur.
Raining Dollars for the Contenders
Both teams have already banked more than €135 million this season. This haul consists of €18.62 million each as a starting bonus for the league phase. Inter, who performed exceptionally well and nabbed fourth place, earned more in the initial stages than PSG, who notched down 15th. The knockout rounds, victory in the round of 16, quarter-finals, and semi-finals, added an additional €57 million to their coffers.
In addition, there are proportionate bonus payments distributed from a massive pool that includes, for instance, TV income from respective countries. Since French broadcasters shell out more than Italian ones, PSG received a larger cut than Inter.
The Billion-Dollar Game
The teams battling it out in the Champions League and the Super Cup combined earned €2.467 billion this season. Remarkably, despite an expanded field from 32 to 36 Champions League contenders, average earnings saw a boost. Last year, the 32 Champions League participants together pocketed a grand total of €2.002 billion.

The Commission, amidst the financial windfall of the Champions League, has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, considering the vast amounts of money being handled in the league. In the midst of the 'Billion-Dollar Game', the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup winners, either Paris from the City of Lights or Inter Milan, will reap an unparalleled €149 million, with the finale taking place in Munich.
