Champions League matches commence: Arsenal and Real Madrid secure victory, Juventus salvage dramatic draw

In the latest round of the Champions League, several teams battled it out for victory, with some surprising results.

Marseille took an early lead against Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants fought back to claim a 2-1 victory. Timothy Weah opened the scoring for Marseille in the first half, but Kylian Mbappe equalised with a penalty before half-time. Mbappe then scored another spot-kick to put Real Madrid ahead, and they held on to the lead despite playing the closing stages with 10 men following Dani Carvajal's sending off.

Elsewhere, Union Saint-Gilloise recorded a impressive 3-1 victory away to PSV Eindhoven. The Belgian side took the lead through Yannick Sangaré, and although PSV equalised through Cody Gakpo, goals from Alexandre Boussoufa and Abel Raman secured the win for Union.

Die Mannschaft, the German side that qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 90 years, were the FC Kopenhagen. Unfortunately for them, they were on the wrong end of a 4-4 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. The game was full of twists and turns, with Karim Adeyemi scoring the first goal for Dortmund in the second half, only for Felix Nmecha to put Leverkusen back in front moments later. Ramy Bensebaini then converted a penalty to give Dortmund a 3-2 lead, but Kenan Yildiz equalised for Leverkusen before Lloyd Kelly scored the winning goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Arsenal also claimed a 2-0 win, this time against Athletic Bilbao. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, and Leandro Trossard added a second with the aid of a deflection. Juventus also picked up a valuable point in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Borussia Dortmund. Dusan Vlahovic equalised for Juventus before scoring again in stoppage time, but Dortmund responded through Yan Couto and Felix Nmecha to take a 3-2 lead. However, Vlahovic equalised once more, and Lloyd Kelly's late goal was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up.

Thomas Frank's Spurs also picked up a 1-0 win against Villarreal, with Dejan Kulusevski scoring the only goal of the game. Overall, it was a dramatic and exciting round of Champions League football, with plenty of twists and turns to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
