Champions League Action: Qarabag Pull Off Remarkable Turnaround Against Benfica; Union SG Shock PSV

In the ongoing Champions League season, two thrilling matches have grabbed the attention of football enthusiasts across Europe.

First, Qarabag staged a remarkable comeback against Benfica, turning a 2-0 deficit into a stunning 3-2 victory. The turning point came in the second half when Oleksii Kashchuk scored the winning goal for Qarabag. The Azerbaijani team, who have only won two of their last 12 matches in major European tournaments, displayed resilience and determination to secure their first win in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Union Saint-Gilloise faced PSV Eindhoven and emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. The Belgian side, who are the second Belgian team, after Club Brugge, to win their first Champions League match, started strongly. Anouar Ait El Hadj and Promise David scored early goals for Union SG, putting them in a commanding position. Kevin Mac Allister added a third goal in the 81st minute, extending their lead to three. Peter Bosz's side responded with a goal in the 90th minute, but it was too late to change the match's outcome.

Union SG's impressive performance was underpinned by their strong shooting. They had an expected goals (xG) rate of 3.25 from their 18 shots, demonstrating their dominance in the game.

In another noteworthy moment, Enzo Barrenechea scored the first goal for Benfica against Qarabag, while Camilo Duran and Leandro Andrade leveled the score for Qarabag. Vangelis Pavlidis scored the second goal for Benfica, but it wasn't enough to prevent Qarabag's comeback.

Qarabag's comeback in the Champions League was in their second campaign, while Union SG have now won three of their last four away matches in European tournaments. This victory marks an exciting start for both teams in the 2025/2026 Champions League season.
