Football Season in Essen, Mülheim, Bottrop, and Velbert: The Champions Revealed
The cold weather has arrived, winter break is upon us, and the male amateur league season has drawn to a close in the Niederrhein region. Here's a rundown of the champions from the Oberliga to the Kreisliga C, including the final fate of the autumn champions.
Bit of Background
Curious about the interim results and psychic abilities? Let's examine those predictions again for their validity.
Oberliga Niederrhein: Fall Champions Sailed High, but Slipped Away
After a 2:0 win against ETB, SpVg Schonnebeck was crowned autumn champions of the Oberliga Niederrhein, boasting a solid lead. SSVg Velbert was five points behind and given a 50:50 chance of winning the title. Despite Schonnebeck's strong season, they faltered in the final weeks, allowing Velberters to steal the throne.
It was a tough call on which team would secure the title, but the Velberters proved their mettle.
Landesliga Niederrhein: Juggernauts and Underdogs Danced
Adler Union Frintrop, from Mülheim, and TVD Velbert found themselves relegated at the end of the season. The group was expected to follow this trajectory.
Viktoria Jürchen-Garzweiler proved unstoppable as autumn champions and champion in Landesliga Gruppe 1, with SC Velbert finishing twelfth in the tumultuous group.
SV Budberg led Liga Gruppe 2 with an aggressive start, only to suffer a relative collapse in the second half of the season, ending up fourth. Adler Union Frintrop, the autumn runners-up, fought hard and successfully gained promotion to the Oberliga Niederrhein, ending the season as champions.

After a strong start, Frintrop missed the title by a small margin, still making a remarkable return to the fifth league in just one year. The spirited Esseners had a promising second half of the season but ultimately fell short.
BW Mintard, ESC Rellinghausen, VfB Bottrop, SG Essen-Schönebeck, and VfB Speldorf had relatively average seasons, ending in middle positions. At the bottom of the table, FC Kray just managed to avoid relegation, catching up to BG Überruhr in the final moments, while SpVgg Steele found themselves in a tougher spot.
District League Group 2
The SSVg Velbert reserve team avoided relegation as predicted, but SC Velbert was caught off guard and relegated, losing the title to 1. FC Wülfrath.
District League Group 5
Rhenania Bottrop lived up to our expectations, becoming champions and overtaking Herbstmeister Sterkrade, while the local rivals Fortuna were fortunate to avoid relegation for now.
District League Groups 6, Westphalia, Division 9, and More
Each district league within the region had its drama and excitement, with numerous teams rising and falling across the rankings.
In the Kreisliga A and B, the fall champions secured their spots, while Kreisliga C saw various twists and turns that made for an intriguing season finale.
Football in Essen: Kreisliga Champions Revealed
Overall champions in Kreisliga A, B, and C were determined, with many titles going to the fall champions as predicted. However, there were exciting battles for the remaining spots, particularly in the Kreisliga C.
A Mülheimer Champion and a Football-related Incident
In Kreisliga A, Group 1 and 2, champions were crowned, while Mülheimer teams showed strong performances, eyeing the top spots. One match between aspiring promotion candidates, FC Taxi Duisburg II and RW Mülheim III, however, made headlines due to a bizarre incident involving a child biting the referee, impacting the rest of the season.
