Ice Hockey Oberliga12 teams, including the Herner EV, are prepped and ready for the Oberliga Nord.
Last summer, Lukas Schulte made the leap to the Central European Hockey League (CEHL) and landed in Neuwied. Paired with former Herner goaltender Oto Jeschke after a season-ending injury to Jan Guryca, Schulte took the reigns as the number one goalie, playing in 21 regular-season games and every playoff match. In the end, it was Schulte and Neuwied who triumphed, beating Eaters Geleen and swooping up the championship.
A Word About EHC Neuwied and EG Diez Limburg
For the upcoming 2023/24 season, both EHC Neuwied and EG Diez Limburg were excluded from the Regionalliga, as it was decided that only NRW teams would participate. As a result, they turned to the CEHL, focusing on matches against Dutch and Belgian teams.
Now, Lukas Schulte is setting his sights on the Herner EV, and his coach is enthusiastic about his prospects: "Lukas is a young goaltender who has a lot to learn but is already well-trained. I have great faith in him and believe he has a lot of room for growth."
